Randi Rhodes Gets Busted-Suspended from Air America
Randi Rhodes gets busted for doing stand up comedy in San Francisco. Air America decides to suspend her over the routine. Well not if we have anything to say about it. This routine, performed for a private audience at a club in San Francisco and sponsored by the local Air America affiliate, also featured politically incorrect, though not quite so graphic, commentary on folks like former Vice Presidential candidate Geraldine Ferraro and former New Jersey first lady Dina McGreevey.
Her specific problem with Clinton, said Rhodes in the routine, is that she's disingenuous: "Her deal is, 'Read the fine print, asshole." She also called Clinton a "Fucking Whore". It is comedy, it will always be over the top. If she had made fun of Obama in the same fashion she would be on the radio on Monday. This is why the Clinton Machine must be stopped.
When the video of the routine hit YouTube, new Air America chairman Charlie Kireker issued a statement saying, "Air America has suspended on-air host Randi Rhodes for making inappropriate statements about prominent figures, including Senator Hillary Clinton, at a recent public appearance on behalf of Air America in San Francisco."
"Air America encourages strong opinions about public affairs but does not condone such abusive, ad hominem language by our hosts."
Kireker, a long-time Democratic party activist, has ties to the Clintons.
We the undersigned feel that Randi Rhodes has been unjustly suspended from Air America for a "comedy routine" of "political satire". Air America is portrays itself as a "progressive voice" in the world "corporate media" . We feel you have proven by your actions, this may be in title only. We urge you to return Randi Rhodes to the air immediately or we will vent our anger towards your sponsors.
