Here are a few examples made using the FireMath Plugin for FireFox. This page is an XML file and you may view the source to see how the top of the page is written in order to use MathML. These examples are meaningless of course but serve to demonstrate that math is possible without using or resorting to using images to represent the symbols and their positioning.
